The Still Register
A closed district. An open file.
A quiet document-investigation horror game from Gravemark Studios.
You will never see who is outside.
1998. Berez District 09 remains sealed after the Quiet Event. At a checkpoint without an observation window, a new set of papers arrives through the intake slot.
A name. A photograph. Permission to come home.
Your job is to decide whether the evidence belongs to the same person. The documents seem ordinary. The register seems reliable. For now.
The applicant never appears at your desk. You know them only through their submitted papers, identification photographs, official records and written answers.
Read the person between the lines.
Spread documents across a worn government workstation. Bring a folio closer, check a date, hold two details under the comparison lamp. Search the civic database on an old CRT. Ask about a contradiction. Consult the morning directive.
Then lift a stamp: APPROVE. DENY. DETAIN.
The decision becomes part of the station's history. When a familiar identity returns, your earlier stamp may have changed what is waiting in their file.
The record remembers. Does it remember correctly?
Believable clerical errors give way to records that should not exist. An impossible date. A history that disagrees with your own filed copy. A name you have seen before, with a different account of what happened.
Five shifts take you from controlled routine to a final question about which version of the record deserves to survive.
Inside this build
- Five authored shifts and 25 files. A complete short campaign with recurring identities, consequences and five possible conclusions.
- A physical desk. Move, overlap and inspect papers; operate a separate terminal, open the manual and place a visible stamp.
- Evidence you investigate yourself. Compare names, photographs, dates, addresses, permits and historical records. Discrepancies are not highlighted in advance.
- Written questioning and filed history. Keep track of statements, revisit earlier documents and test the current register against your own decisions.
- Learn by doing. A visual practice desk teaches handling, lookup, comparison and stamping without affecting your campaign.
- A deliberate pace. No countdown. Every filed decision receives a review, and each shift closes with an audit.
Take your place at the desk.
Start with HOW TO WORK for the hands-on induction, or open a new register and read the first circular. Headphones suit the low hum of the room and the sound of paper, keys and stamps.
Mouse & keyboard: drag papers to move them; click to inspect. Select printed or terminal details to hold evidence, then choose COMPARE. Type a name or civic number in the terminal, or use LOOK UP from a document.
Shortcuts: T terminal · R manual · C comparison · Q written line · G gather papers · 1 / 2 / 3 lift stamps · Escape back or return stamp · Space next filed case · F11 fullscreen.
Touch: drag or tap papers and use the four desk objects. Documents and devices open in dedicated readable views. Stamping has an explicit PRESS control.
Current edition
v1.0 RC2 / development release candidate. The five-shift campaign is playable from opening to conclusion. Presentation, balance and device testing are still being refined.
The browser build and Windows download share the same game. The Android APK is an ARM64 development build for Android 8 or newer; physical-device testing is still in progress. There is no native iOS, macOS or Linux download in this edition.
Progress is stored locally. Browser and downloaded versions have separate saves; clearing browser storage can remove browser progress. Sound levels and reduced motion are available in SOUND & DISPLAY.
Content notes: confinement, state coercion, death records, detention and psychological unease. Applicants remain unseen outside their documentary photographs.
